Winston caught our eye due to his quick success in a wide variety of performance venues. We know and love his sire, Buster, and as Winston's owner says, "he is really a chip off the old block." She describes him as extremely smart, very much a thinker and problem solver; a loyal companion with an exceptional work ethic who is a joy to train. He is an active, athletic dog who is ready to work all day long, whether that be in the field or in the obedience ring where he has consistently achieved high scores, even trialing many times in one day.
Once we met him, we knew everything his owner said was true! While being bred to Nessie, Winston and Susan stayed with us for several days. He was a perfect gentleman in the house, immediately taking to our other dogs and playing like he'd known them forever. After a rendezvous with Nessie, he had no issue coming inside, focusing, and training right beside her.
Winston stands 22" tall and weighs approximately 58 lbs with a lean, athletic build. He has a truly wash and wear coat with adequate feathering. Behind him is a pedigree full of long-lived dogs (sire is 13, grandsire lived to 16 years, 8 months, dam is 9, granddam is 12) and he has been a happy, healthy dog with no allergies or other known issues.
Outside of being a serious competitor in many venues, we were so glad we got to see Winston's goofy side, too! He LOVES to play and always has to have something in his mouth (usually a shoe). He is happy, happy, happy all the time and sings with joy when he sees people. And then at the end of the day, he settles easily and will snuggle up right beside you. Absolutely perfect golden retriever temperament.
Nessie meets puppies for the first time. She was in love!
Nessie is the niece of our foundation girl, Bailey, and granddaughter of OTCH High Times Wild Turkey UDX10 SH OGM U-UD OS OBHF, "Tommy" who is one of our all-time favorite boys. On her sire's side, she is the granddaughter of DK.BR.CH Clockburn Clooneen, "Clyde," who was the 2003 field trialer of the year in the UK. The top five contributors in Nessie's pedigree are all Field Trial Champions. Very slow to mature, Nessie is just beginning to compete in obedience and rally. She also has incredible natural field instincts, but we have not pursued much formal training in this venue yet.
Nessie is a very sweet girl with a bombproof temperament who gets along with everyone she meets. While she does love her humans (and her cat), she is also very independent and is perfectly happy to grab a toy and go do her own thing. As she's matured, she's shown us that she really does enjoy training and gets SO excited when she knows what you're asking (she may have the happiest "down" command I've ever seen :).
Physically, Nessie has a shorter, wash and wear coat with adequate feathering that truly repels everything. She is taller than standard for a female at 24" and a well muscled 63 lbs. Nessie has OFA good hips and normal elbows, heart, and eyes. All genetic testing has been done and she is an ichthyosis and PRA-2 carrier.
We are expecting puppies from this litter to be smaller framed, agile, high drive but with good focus, and extremely biddable. They will be ideally suited for competition/performance homes. A few puppies may be available to active companion homes.
