After Tali's missed breeding last year, we were on the search for a younger boy who, despite his age, had still proven himself AND had the temperament, longevity, and structure we were looking for. It felt like an impossible quest. Tali has so many qualities we don't want to lose and everywhere we looked, it felt like we'd be sacrificing something.
Thankfully, Tali held off coming into season long enough that Church turned two, passed his clearances, and entered the pool of possibilities. Over the years, we've talked with Nicole and Brian of Ammo goldens many times, as our breeding goals pretty closely align. After learning a little more about their young boy, we decided he sounded like the perfect match for Tali.
Church and Tali are not closely related, but they are of very similar type - small, athletic, and very balanced. They also have similar sweet personalities and are just as happy rolling on you, begging for cuddles as they are working. We anticipate these puppies to be on the smaller size of standard, be more people focused with true golden personalities who love everyone, have a decent off switch in the house, but be quick thinking, happy workers in any sporting venue you'd like to play.
Church
Here's what Church's owners have to say about him: Church is the singleton puppy from our litter using the last of the frozen semen from his sire Chase to our girl Gravy. We had been hoping to keep a girl, but couldn’t bare the thought of parting with this lone, precocious boy!
Despite never attending a formal training class or any run-throughs, Church started trialing in agility in May 2023 and was already earning his first MACH points in October 2023. While he still has a lot of filling out and maturing to do, we are extremely pleased with what we see in him so far! For a young male, he is showing excellent work ethic and biddability.
In the house, Church already has a wonderful off-switch and is easy to live with. He is happy to be snuggled up with you on the couch, or cuddling with the other dogs. At the same time, he is always up for training or playing fetch in the yard. He has lived with another intact male and numerous intact and spayed females, and gets along with everyone.
We believe Church has a bright future and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes.
Tali
Tali is our keeper girl from our repeat Magic X Dream breeding in 2019, and the third generation of Maywood's original lines, so she's had big paws to fill! Born just before COVID shut everything down, we've definitely had a delayed start to her competition career, but this fall we were able to finish her Rally Championship and debut in NADAC agility just before she came into season. She is ready to debut in AKC agility and the Open obedience ring, so after puppies, we plan to get back to that. She also loves birds and water, so we may try to get back into a little fieldwork if time allows.
Tali loves to learn and work, especially in agility, and you can show her something once and she's got it. In the ring, she is happy and turns on the drive, while at home she's perfectly content just cuddling on the couch. She gets along with absolutely everyone, is very people focused, extremely biddable, and maybe cuddly to a fault if there is such a thing for a golden!
At 20.5" tall and 45 lbs, Tali is on the smaller side of the breed standard. She has a straight, correct coat with minimal furnishings, and we swear she can swim and not even get wet she dries so quick!
